Awesome!

Hey there !

Its been a great day today! Weather was awesome once again. Played some basketball with Lionel this morning and some ping pong with Phil and Grace.

Look even the kids are going out on an excursion! (I think)

This is Phil using the stud finder to find the studs beneath the walls. The way things are built here is that the wall, usually a layer of sheet rock, is supported with studs made out of wood behind it. The wooden studs are usually vertical with a spacing of 16 inches in-between them. So in order for us to find a good spot to drill a hole in the wall, we have to drill out of the way of the studs and therefore we use a stud finder which tells us where the studs are so we do not drill into them.

Apart from doing manual labour and cutting holes in the walls, I also had the chance to do some electrical work which I've never done before nor learnt in my life!

So this is what I'm basically doing..

There are 2 signals coming into the circuit. Black cable for the ground (or common as they call it here in the US) and red for the voltage. So the voltage that is coming through the system is 70v. However the 80 ohm speakers will explode if they take in 70v. So we have to insert a transformer to reduce the voltage that is coming into the speakers. The transformer then reduces the power here to 1 watt, which is enough to allow the speaker to produce a good 100dB worth of power. The signal then goes through a volume control and then to the speaker.

Phew now that we got that part out of the way.. Haha! What a mouthful of useful stuff that I had no clue what its all about before I got here. I get to learn how to solder wires together, fish cables out of the wall and learn how to be a man in the house (fix things), well, almost.

So we'll be heading back to do more work and hopefully we can start testing the speakers tomorrow to see if it works well!

After realizing the super market wasn't really that super, we headed out further down to see what other stuff they had.

So as we walked on we headed into the dollar store and got quite a bit of stuff. Walked further on and grabbed a shirt and Lionel got a hoodie. So we continued walking for a couple of blocks after the public library before heading back. I'll let the pictures do the talking! (:
